The Power of Student Voice: Encouraging Active in School Policies | ICSE School in Patiala

In the present education setup, student voices increasingly find respect to shape school policies. In
Kaintal School, which is an ICSE school in Patiala, as much student participation in decision-making as possible is encouraged so that the learning environment is active and inclusive and tends to give much respect to the needs of students.

Benefits of Encouraging Student Participation in School Policies

Promotion of Leadership and Responsibility
The leadership skills are built when students take part in making policy decisions. They realize the fact that the decisions they make should come under ownership and responsibility. The sense of accountability can therefore be developed as they comment about issues such as perhaps environmental initiatives or school rules.

Improvement in Communication Skills
Active participation in discussions about school policies refines the communication skills of students. Learners are able to express their ideas effectively, listen to others, and enter into constructive debate-essential for both personal and professional growth-whatever form this might take be it student councils or open forums.

To encourage inclusivity and equitable end
This is due to the fact that pupils from diverse backgrounds and interests also get an opportunity to be involved in the policy discussions. Thus, policies will reflect all facets of the needs of students, creating a school culture where every student in that institution feels valued and heard.

Engaging Students in Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking
Involving students in policy-making provides an arena where the real-life issues they experience would be dealt with. The debate can be on adopting school rules, efficient ways to improve student welfare, and more; the resultant critical thinking and problem-solving skills involve them in present and future responsibilities.

Improving School-Student Relationship
Encouraging student voices in schools helps students better relate to the administration, and such interaction will strengthen bonds between these students and the administration. More trust builds; students feel that their opinions might even matter, leading to a higher chance of a positive school atmosphere.

Bettering Student Motivation and Engagement
It is when students are able to see that their ideas really make a difference in school policies that they feel connected and engaged and motivated to be actively involved in school life. High involvement leads to higher overall engagement, which is associated with better academic as well as social consequences.

Building Confidence and Self- Esteem
Incorporating students into sharing their ideas and participation in decision-making processes boosts their self-esteem. They are confident of making a difference, in fact exactly an essential quality that would benefit them while they move into future academic and professional lives.

conclusion
This is concluded to be a significant factor in the development of confident, responsible, and student-bodied persons in educational institutions. Such prioritization of student voice at Kaintal School is what makes it one of the Best ICSE Schools in Patiala. It not only fosters an empowering learning environment but also supports the positive development of students to excel in their lives.

4 Fundamental Concepts of Digital Citizenship

COVID-19 pandemic has forced millions of schools and educational institutes to shift their teaching system from offline to digital media and digital communication channels. In this era of the digital boom, teachers and students must know a variety of topics to become a responsible digital citizen. What is Digital Citizenship? It refers to the use of technology responsibly to engage with society on any level. As the advancement in technology is rising at the pace faster than ever before, the world is becoming more dependent on the internet for day-to-day activities such as checking a bank account, purchasing a product or even keeping in touch with a friend online.

To keep you safe and educated enough, Kaintal School, one of the best ICSE Schools in Patiala, is sharing four fundamental concepts of digital citizenship for every digital user out there.

1. Empathy

Empathy is crucial for understanding how people talk and behave online because internet relies largely on text-based communication. It is impossible to understand non-verbal cues such as facial expressions or someone’s vocal tone which leads to making quick, harsh judgments about someone’s statements online.

2. Digital Literacy

The practice of reading information online and understanding what it means and whether it’s accurate is one of the most important qualities every digital citizen should possess. Digital literacy includes learning about ethics, protecting yourself online, being aware of false information or fake news, and biased entertainment sources or social media posts.

3. Digital Wellness

Digital wellness is the practice of knowing when to “take a break” from screens or practice of refraining from indulging in the internet and digital media for unreasonable amounts of time. The best way to practice digital wellness is to take time away from digital devices for a few hours every day. It is crucial to understand that too much screen time can have adverse effects on digital users’ mental health.

4. Securing Digital Devices

It is vital to secure your digital devices and accounts to become a good digital citizen. There are a few things to check, such as enabling two-factor authentication for email accounts, using strong passwords, and installing good quality antivirus software in the system.

Kaintal School is a leading ICSE school in Patiala that aims to create a happy, secure and caring learning environment which fosters quality educational system.

Competency-Based Learning is Need of the Hour

For students to develop 21st-century skills and make them successful in life beyond school, they need to have a deep understanding of what, how and why. For students, these ideas represent “how” to do something; for teachers, “why” we teach students using certain strategies; for the curriculum, it is the application of “what” we teach. The top ICSE School in Patiala, Kaintal School, believes that it is essential to understand the importance of competency-based learning model and to incorporate it into the curriculum for every student to succeed and reach beyond their potential.

What is competency-based learning?

Competency-based learning refers to a system of instruction, assessment, grading and academic reporting that is concerned chiefly with a student’s progression at his/her pace and depth. The primary difference between competency-based and mastery-based learning is that the former often focuses on observable skills or competencies, while the latter is likely to focus on concepts as skills. The key characteristic of a competency-based learning model is its focus on mastery in which students are not allowed to continue until they have demonstrated the ability of the identified competencies.

How can teachers use a competency-based learning model?

Competency-based strategies provide flexibility to the students with personalized learning opportunities, and these strategies include online and blended learning, dual enrollment and early college high schools, project-based and community-based learning. It leads to better student engagement as the content is relevant and tailored to their unique needs which in result lead to better outcomes as the learners can move at their own pace.

The teachers need to understand the vision and be led to work together to implement competency-based learning model through the curriculum and inside the classroom. If school leaders and educators work together, then students will become competent and often exceptional in developing their competencies, future-ready skills and 21st-century skills.

Kaintal School is one of the best ICSE schools in Patiala that bridges the ideas of academic content, skills and competencies together with 21st-century skills which enhances our school system’s ability to make students succeed in whatever endeavor they choose.

A certain level of stress in the students is normal, but when the child gets exposed to stressful events frequently without the tools or methods to manage it, stress can become physically and mentally toxic. It is our responsibility as teachers and parents to identify and handle children struggling with stress. Many children and teens may not know or recognize that they are struggling with it, and Kaintal School, the best schools in Patiala, is sharing five science-backed ways to help students cope with stress.

Keep your kids and children moving by encouraging them to participate in playful activities such as taking stretching breaks, playing outdoor games. Try to incorporate some kind of exercise for at least one hour per day to keep stress, depression, or anxiety at bay.

Encourage your kids to keep things in an organized manner by scheduling time in a day only for this purpose.

Developing Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Skills in Students

In this digital era, it has become hard for students to connect with people in real life as they are glued to the blue screens which have produced a massive shift in how people interact and communicate. It is a rising concern to the future of students lacking interpersonal and intrapersonal skills as it affects their various parts of lives, and with the future workforce.

Interpersonal skills involve the combination of various skills such as listening, verbal and non-verbal communication, teamwork and creative thinking. The root of interpersonal skills lies in the self-reflection of the individual, which help in becoming mature and cope up with the world. Therefore, Kaintal School, counted among top schools in Patiala, believes developing intrapersonal skills help in developing interpersonal skills.

Let’s see how we, as teachers and parents, can help our students and children develop interpersonal and intrapersonal skills:

1. Basic Manners: Encourage positive social behavior by teaching the importance of “please” and “thank you”. At the same time, we need to make use of these words in daily conversations as students learn from hearing and watching the behavior of others.

2. Personality Differences: Every person is different and unique, and it is unwise to tell students that they will like everything about their future friends, neighbors, or co-workers. Reminding students about being patient with others, and finding the “sweet spot” by teaching the lesson of self-respect, and avoiding behaviors that push people away or dominating the conversation is crucial to understand and respect personality differences.

3. Collaboration Practice: One of the best ways to develop these skills is to form groups of different students and posing a problem or challenge-based activities to them. Please make sure that students pursue legitimate goals, and that work should lead to students practicing interpersonal skills working together.

4. Explicitly Practicing: Guiding students to explicitly practice the skills by providing scenarios and challenges such as "what would you do if you have been in someone else’s shoes", would help them in building and practicing empathy and self-awareness which is the foundation of intrapersonal skills.

Students who possess excellent intrapersonal and interpersonal skills are considered to have success in personal and professional life. Kaintal School, best schools in Patiala, help the students become better human beings through the process of self-realisation by fostering qualities of respect for others.

Education for a Lifetime

I have been a part of Kaintal School for the last fourteen years. My experience in this school has been wonderf
ul over these years. This school has been a great reason for the discipline in me. It is said that parents are the first teachers of a child but the parents teachings are of no use if the teacher is not cooperative. The teachers of Kaintal School have been completely cooperative. They have always been my helping hand. Teachers are the ones who helped to explore the best in me.

I became a part of this school in 2004. I joined the school as a tiny tot in Prep-I. I still remember the first day when I came, I was crying very loudly and I was begging my parents not to send me to school as I had a misconception that schools are another form of hell and teachers are the devils waiting for us to join the school and torture us. I realised the first day how wrong my thinking was. After joining Kaintal school, I realised that teachers are the angels who uplift our souls.

I have been a brilliant student since the beginning but the brilliance was of no use if I had chosen wrong path. My teachers have always shown me the right path. Not only teachers, but other staff also play a vital role in the overall experience of studying in this school. All the peons, cleaners, drivers and assistants have also been very friendly. None of them has ever been harsh with me.

Over the years, I have experienced many changes in the school. Since Mrs. Rajinder Kaur Virk was appointed as our Principal, our school has been scaling new heights which were unexplored till now. She is the one who encourages students  not only to study hard but also to participate in extra-curricular activities and sports. This school is the one that made me relish my talents in bhangra and softball. I represented our school at the district level as the captain of the school softball team and it is all because of our sports coach, Mr. Sarabjit Singh that we got a silver medal. I participated in various extra curricular activities and achieved a lot.

Whatever I am today, is all because of Kaintal School. Had I joined some other school. I would not have been so confident and satisfied. Whatever I am today, whatever I’ll be in future, the whole credit goes to Kaintal School.

Knowledge with Guidance

In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Imagine how as a kid you would have known how to ride a bicycle if your father didn’t teach you to paddle it or how you learned swimming because of your instructor’s multiple instructions.

Kaintal School, ICSE Schools in Patiala, would like to ask you if you’d be able to read and educate yourself if it wasn’t for your school teacher’s constant efforts to help and guide you throughout the process.

One always needs a guide at all stages of their life to learn new things. Assistance will help you realise your core competencies while keeping into consideration your interests, strengths, and weaknesses, which you might not be aware of. This understanding of oneself better leads to one’s growth and development.

What good is knowledge of things if you don’t know how to channelize it in the right direction? Your awareness about something would be futile if you didn’t know how, when and where to use it. Knowledge can only be fruitful when somebody teaches you how to utilize it.

From understanding maths solutions from a friend a night before the exam to taking advice from seniors about how to write the exams, is all a part of seeking guidance. Good guidance can be the solution to any problem.

Even the most genius personalities had a mentor to guide them. Guidance can be either personal or professional. It can help you make better choices in life.  Just as choosing the right road is necessary to reach your destination, the right guidance is necessary to achieve desired goals; else you will end up circling around the wrong routes. Kaintal School, ICSE Affiliated Schools in Patiala ensures guidance that is truthful, honest and caters to the needs of every individual student.

Formulate a proper time-table for your kid which include time for rest and play-time too. This helps rejuvenate their mind and get them prepared for another day as well.

·        Ensure A Proper Sleeping Pattern

You surely don’t want your kids to get the dark circles at 16 which you got at 30. Make sure that they are not overburdening themselves with their work and getting proper sleep. When forming a timetable do not stretch the timing for study beyond 8 or 9 in the night. Ensure that they go to bed by maximum 10 a.m. and get at least 8 hours of sleep every day. Studies have shown that getting proper sleep helps in learning better.

·        Help Them Get Organized

In order to live a calm and peaceful life, you need to declutter and organize their life. Teach them the importance of organizing their stuff beforehand and how it can save them from a stressful morning routine. For instance, teach them to pack their bags before they go to bed or do not leave arranging the uniform or polishing the shoes for the morning. All these healthy habits will help them avoid stress triggering situations.

·        Help Them Deal With Their Mistakes

A lot of stress and anxiety come from their fear of committing mistakes. When your kid commits a mistake instead of scolding or punishing them, listen to them patiently and try to find out the cause behind that. Don’t take up their problems as your own. Try to get a solution from them to get a better understanding of their perception of the mistake. Calmly correct them when they do something wrong.

As a parent, you need to be calm yourself if you want to keep your child away from stress. Kids are very quick to sense even the slightest change in your behavior, so if you reach home stressed from work, this can induce stress in your child as well.
