Is Competition Healthy?

The meaning of the word competition has changed from what it was before. More and more children are now competing to attain the first position in the classroom, which can have both negative and positive impact on them. Competition can be among the students in a class or in sports which can encourage and push them to go beyond their limits.

At one of the best ICSE affiliated schools in Patiala, at Kaintal School, we have come up with the pros and cons of competition and to help you understand how much competition.

Pros:

• Children get to know more about themselves. They are able to acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses.

• It helps students get motivated.

• Students learn to integrate their skills.

• Competition generates excitement.

• Children learn to cooperate with each other.

• It inspires students to do better.

• Students put more effort when they feel the competition getting strong.

• It provides feedback to the students on their performance.

Cons:

• Children might feel that they are not enough.

• It leads to children envying each other.

• They can get really aggressive if their performance isn’t up to the mark.

• If a student isn’t able to perform well, he might get stressed.

• Unhealthy competition can create instability since a child won’t be able to concentrate on the performance. Instead, he will focus on attaining a position.

• Competition may force students to make a decision without investigating the consequences.
• When children become more competitive, they aren’t very nice to each other.

• Competitive students might focus more on the praises they get from their teachers rather than the learning outcome.

As the best Patiala ICSE school, we at Kaintal School help our students identify healthy competition and strive to work towards making them achieve whatever they desire. With the right steps, parents and teachers can easily help measure healthy competition in their child’s or student’s life.
