Teaching Students Resilience

Resilience is the ability to bounce back when an outcome isn’t as good as you expect it to be. People who are resilient do not dwell on failures. Instead, they learn from it and move forward by accepting that it is okay to try and fail. This quality should be imbibed by every child so that he learns to acknowledge a situation positively. If a child lacks resilience he is not able to take up a challenge, fearing he might have an unsuccessful outcome.

Here are some tips from Kaintal School, known as one of the best ICSE schools in Patiala, to help children learn resilience:

• While teaching, include stories about famous personalities who did not give up even on failing. These stories can be about Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, and J.K. Rowling.

• Remind them that it is okay to encounter failure. Also, ensure them that they can always ask for your help both as a mentor and friend.

• Tell the children that failure can be used to bring out change, both in the perspective of dealing with it and the situation. It will help them to grow as a person and they will be able to learn new skills while preparing for different challenges.

• List a few situations that help children brainstorm various solutions to a problem. The problem-solving capacity of a child increases when he is able to analyze various situations.

• Allow children to take risks. Unless a child doesn’t take the risk he will not learn about the negative and positive outcomes of a situation.

• Identify their strengths. Do not highlight the weaknesses that might make them feel uncomfortable while trying.

• Help children find a purpose individually. Tell them that they are on this planet to achieve something great. Encourage them every time they feel like giving up.

For a child to acquire success, it is important that he goes through all sorts of challenges with a smile on his face. As the best ICSE school in Patiala, we at Kaintal School, make sure our students learn from every minor setback and come out as strong as before.
